EduPro - The myths about EduPro and web applications, we only wish our competitors understood the technology!

• EduPro is a hosted service!

EduPro can be a hosted service but in the case of 70% of our clients the server actually remains on the clients site and under the clients control. EduPro runs in a browser which is what makes it web-based. The location of the server is of no consequence.

• A web-based database is insecure!

An application being web-based does not make it insecure. GP Soft promotes web-based systems built on the latest open source applications running the latest versions with the latest patches.

Our system was deployed by the largest group of schools in the world. EduPro has gone through SOX compliance and penetration tests of the highest order and has passed with flying colours.

Our competitors tied to the Microsoft platform and running un-patched systems will be more insecure than EduPro, whether EduPro is open to the general internet or not. Un-patched systems with poor security policies are insecure. EduPro can be updated in real-time and it's web servers and databases can be patched easily, far easier than the competition.

Finally a web-based system does not have to be open to the wider Internet, it can be run as a Intranet application which is only accessible by staff and trusted clients.

GP Soft's competitors should not get in situations where they are discussing security with a company who are security experts.

• EduPro is only for big schools and colleges with lots of sites 

This again is not the case we have a multitude of clients from 60 current students to 20,000 current students.

• A system which is web-based means that anyone can see your data

EduPro requires a login like almost all systems, the login is also tied to some extremely complex permission definitions. No user without a password and the correct permissions will ever be able to see your data.

EduPro is capable of running over SSL (Secure Socket Layer) which is the same as when you do your online banking and the lock sign appears. All data you are looking at is encrypted between your computer and the server. Nothing could be more secure. Our competitors offer Remote Desktop (Terminal Services) using the RDP protocol which is anything but secure and for the most part runs unencrypted over a standard web port 80 connection.
